When walking to "El Volcancillo" (the little volcano) from the town of Toxtlacuaya, Veracruz, Esme spotted a spiny lizard (Sceloporus species). When she called me, the lizard ran away from its basking spot in the sun between the high grass.
But I was very lucky since the lizard climbed a bit up the grass, and I could get close enough to take the above photo.
I made that day another, in my opinion, very good photo of a spiny lizard. I guess that the animal in the above photo is a gravid (pregnant) female.
