A house gecko, and a scorpion drinking

Sunday, May 21, 2006 | 1 comment

Today we went to a party held at the house of the inlaws of a friend. When he opened a sliding window to let some cool air into the room, he scared a house gecko out of hiding. The animal ran up the window pane but by the time I got my camera ready, it was gone from view, and after some more window moving, it went outside.

Later, when we went outside to have a look at the garden, I took my digital camera with me. And I was lucky, the gecko was hard to see but still there, hiding under the window sill.

I was able to take several pictures without scaring the gecko away. We have one gecko living on top of our house somewhere, and now and then it enters the house, but I have never been able to take good pictures. The one time I managed to capture it, the gecko was quite skittish and hence taking pictures was not easy.

In the evening, when we got home, I noticed one of my scorpions (Diplocentrus species) drinking water, and took a few photos.
