We kept following the road, more up and up. Then we noticed a closed gate. There was a small dirt road to the left, and we decided to follow it. Suddenly it started to rain quite strong. Luckily we had brought some rain gear: thin plastic coats. Esme decided that we could wait a little under the trees, and so we did.
The rain didn't stop, so I decided that we could follow the small dirt road, but after a few minutes it became clear that it had a gate as well. We could follow the road, but would end up in a meadow with cows. So we agreed on going back, and keep following the main road notwithstanding the closed gate.
So we passed the gate, and kept following the road. After we rounded a bend we saw that the road would lead us to a farm, so we decided to head back to Ixhuacán de los Reyes.
It had mostly stopped raining but there was quite a fog, or maybe better: clouds that touched the ground, since I guessed we walked close to 2000 meters above sea level.
We enjoyed the magnificient views. We hadn't seen scorpions, nor tarantulas, nor any other weird animal that day, but the views were making up for a lot.
Back in the town of Ixhuacán the bus to Xalapa arrived about 5 minutes after we had reached the small town park.
