Abuse of the browser status bar

What's in a name | 2 comments

Sometimes the status bar is used to display help text using for example JavaScript. This is not obvious to the visitor. More annoying is scrolling text. In most browsers the status bar is used to display the full address of a link and that is what a visitor expects.

Don't try to hide the URL by putting some message in this bar. This is called "spoofing". It is always possible to view the page source if one needs the address of a link.
