Finding an abuse email address

Monday, January 23, 2006 | 1 comment

Ever wanted to send an abuse report by email, but no idea where to get started? I had the same problem, and by emailing SpamCop.net with my question I got an answer. When you enter one line consisting of the IP address or hostname of the offender in the spam reporting form, you get one or more abuse reporting addresses back.

I decided to add a keymark to Firefox with the following location:

http://www.spamcop.net/sc?track=%s

and the following keyword:

abuse

Now when I type abuse example.com in the address bar of Firefox I get the abuse reporting addresses thanks to SpamCop.net.

I am using this method of look up for minor incidents. Recently I have been hit quite hard by referer spam, probably via a botnet. I started today on a Perl program to report these incidents automatically.
