Fire in Xalapa

Saturday, April 17, 2004 | 0 comments

Today, when we were almost finished cleaning the roof of our house, I smelled something that reminded me of burning electric wire insulation. I looked around, and saw a huge column of smoke. Somewhere down the street, something was on fire.

It seemed to take ages before the police arrived, and even longer before the first fire engine arrived. A small car with two guys in the back. Several ambulances, five or maybe even six, tried to get to the scene. And all the while the traffic tried to find the best way to block the entire street.

At last a big red fire engine arrived, and a little while later the smoke got less and less.

In the evening we walked to the place of the fire, and it seemed that a house, on top of a garage had been on fire. It really looked bad, everything was black inside.

Also today
