At night I was not able to sleep, maybe because of the heat, maybe because of all the excitement of having a scorpion in the house. Anyway, I decided to update my script for getting the top referers from the access_log created by the Apache HTTP server for this website. A referer often means that someone has put a link on her or his site to mine. Sadly, some people write programs (bots) that automatically visit many pages on a site, and fake the referer, so it looks like you have a link on their site. They probably hope to attract some curious webmasters that way. Those bots are easy to spot because they visit many pages in a very short time. Also some are badly written because they can't handle relative URLs well, and hence mess up the error_log too.
I did find some links to my site this way: a posting on a message board, belonging to a Dutch Party site, links to my Quiting Oxazepam (Seresta) article. The author warns another poster, who seems to use Oxazepam as a recreational drug. Also my New Zealand Weta page has been linked by a school on their homework assignment page. See Kudos for this website for more information.
